The people in the balconies, the "parents", are trying to enforce their ways on their kids, the way that they think they should be, making them wear masks of lies. The sound shield is another example of this. The band is depicted as one? thing, but through the window that the parents give their children, they are depicted as another. And any attempt to see them as anything else (like at 1:40) is forbidden and struck down (hence the "police officer")
